A friend of mine from law school recently reminded me of an email which I sent her after voting in Lower Saucon Township for the first time. I had recently moved from Elk Grove, California, a suburb of Sacramento, where I had always voted by mail, and prior to that had voted by absentee ballot or by mail during my years in the Navy. I was impressed by the beauty of the historic schoolhouse (Southeastern Fire Company) and the genuine friendliness of the volunteers (they all stood and clapped for my first time voting in Pennsylvania). I remember telling her that I had found the essence of America in this little township in Pennsylvania named Lower Saucon.
So, register to vote. Aside from the joy of taking part in your government, who knows, you might have one of those amazing experiences that helps remind you this is an amazing country.
