As a Naval Academy graduate, a Navy surface warfare officer, and an attorney, Kaitlyn Sommer has a proven record of working hard to serve her country.  Kaitlyn is running to bring new leadership to the council at a time when we need fresh, learned ideas to solve challenges and create opportunities for the people of Lower Saucon Township.

After graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 2005, Kaitlyn spent over five years on active duty in the U.S. Navy.  She deployed to the Persian Gulf twice as a surface warfare officer onboard USS HUE CITY (CG 66), serving as both Officer of the Deck and Tactical Action Officer.  In addition she oversaw operation and maintenance of the AEGIS weapons system and a division of over twenty-five sailors.  Kaitlyn was awarded both the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal.

After leaving the Navy in 2010, Kaitlyn attended law school at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.  She graduated in May 2013 and received a Juris Doctor degree with a concentration in Public Law and Policy.  Kaitlyn worked as a lawyer, clerking first for a Federal District Court judge and then a Pennsylvania Superior Court judge in Allentown.  As a law clerk, Kaitlyn encountered a myriad of challenging legal situations, where she evaluated both sides of the argument, applied Federal and Pennsylvania law, and proposed a draft opinion for the judge.

Kaitlyn and her husband Zach, a fellow Navy veteran, live in Lower Saucon Township, where they are raising their three children ages four, two, and six-months.
